APOLOGIES FOR CROSS-POSTING

Dear colleagues,

we would like to draw your attention to the following session that we
will be convening at EGU 2010 in Vienna (2-7 May, 2010):

***NH9.9**

******Reconstructing long time series of extreme natural hazards in
terrestrial geoarchives** *

This session invites submissions from studies using proxy
reconstructions from various terrestrial sediment archives in order to
better understand the long-term behaviour of extreme event frequencies
and their relation to changing climate boundary conditions

We welcome contributions providing different proxy data from terrestrial
sediment archives for reconstructing amplitudes, frequencies, and the
seasonality of extreme events. The time series of extreme events should
be compared with meteorological, historical and/or paleoclimatological
data in order to discuss possible effects of climate change on the
occurrence and characteristics of extremes in the past. Since dating of
the sediment archives is a critical issue to improve the interpretation
of proxy reconstructions, contributions based state of the art
geochronological methods, multiple dating approaches and on annually
laminated archives are encouraged. We would also be interested to hear
from researchers using dendro archives of natural hazards.

Abstract submissions are now open and can be submitted to this session
using the following link:

****The deadline for abstract submission is 18th January 2010*** *

General information on the EGU 2010 meeting can be found at

We hope to see you in Vienna in 2010,

Achim and Varyl.
