Dear colleagues,

We would like to invite submissions to session PA05, =93The role of the
North Pacific on climate variability=94 at the upcoming AGU Ocean
Sciences Meeting (February 22-26, 2010, in Portland, Oregon, USA).
Abstract submissions are due October 15, 2009.

Session description:

Our understanding of oceanic paleoclimate variability is dominantly
based on North Atlantic records. While the North Atlantic clearly plays
a critical role in ocean circulation and global climate, we have
comparatively little data from the Pacific basin, without which our
reconstructions of global paleoclimate processes are incomplete.
Findings suggest that the North Pacific is a dynamic region sensitive to
externally forced climate change on glacial/interglacial
timescales. At the same time, regional processes (e.g. emergence of
Beringia, North Pacific Intermediate Water formation, and Aleutian Low
dynamics) have the potential to drive global circulation patterns. We
invite presentations of new data and model results from the North
Pacific and its marginal seas, with insights both into modern climate
and ecosystem dynamics, as well as reconstructions of past conditions.
Contributions that further clarify the role of the North Pacific on
climate from marine, terrestrial, and ice core research groups are
encouraged. Invited presenters include Christina Ravelo (UCSC), John
Crusius (USGS), Emanuele DiLorenzo (GA Tech), and Joe Ortiz (Kent
State).
