Dear all, apologies for cross posting.

This is a message to all those with an interest in attending the
postponed International Paleolimnology Symposium in Guadalajara. You
will remember that we made an announcement on the 12th May that we
intended to hold the re-scheduled meeting in June 2010. However, we
have now become aware that the financial penalties for such a long
delay will be unacceptable for many intending participants, and that
there is a stronger case for holding the meeting sooner rather than
later. On that basis the IPA Executive Committee has today agreed
that the re-arranged meeting will now be held this year from December
15th to 18th. It will clash with the annual AGU meeting in San
Francisco, but that in the circumstances sadly becomes
unavoidable. We can only ask those that might have attended both
meetings to make a choice.

On behalf of the committee I want to apologise for this switch in our
decision and I do hope that everyone who had planned to attend the
original meeting this summer will be able to re-arrange their
schedules for December. I hope also that those who were unable to
attend in June this year might now be able to meet up in December as
well. Margarita Caballero will be providing details of the new
arrangements for December as soon as possible.

Margarita also has the problem of sorting out the issues surrounding
the cancellation of the June meeting. No doubt many of you will need
to contact her to discuss your personal circumstances, especially
those of you who need your registration fees repaid, but please
remember how much pressure she is under at this moment and be both
patient and understanding in your communications!

Despite the problems of the last few weeks in remains an exciting
venue for our conference and I have no doubt the conference will be a
great success. Please do come along!

Regards to all

Rick Battarbee (IPA Chair)
